Zero X electric dirt bike available to Australians

So you are in Australia and have a hankering to get your hands on an electric dirt bike. The good news is that your problem is quite easily solved. Zero Motorcycles in the US will happily ship a Zero X to your front door and all you have to do is pay for it (and the customs duty), attach the wheels and handlebars and charge the battery.

If you haven’t seen the Zero X before you are probably thinking it looks a bit undernourished for a dirt bike. You would be correct because it only weighs 64kg and therefore has no need for components the same size as its petrol powered equivalents.

So what do you get in 64kg of electric dirt bike? The Zero X accelerates silently from 0-50kph in under 2 seconds and has a range of over 60km. The electric motor produces about 20 horsepower with maximum torque available from standstill. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out the off-the-line performance is going to be very good.

Of course the other benefit of an electric dirt bike, apart from its environmental credentials and performance, is the limited maintenance required. As far as I can see the only regular maintenance task is lubing and adjusting the chain with the occasional brake pad change. It is pretty much a case of charge and ride.

Zero Motorcycles are looking to partner with capable distributors all over the world for the sale of the Zero X and a road going version they are developing.
