The Commonwealth Government has released a new fuel consumption and emissions label for all new light vehicles sold in Australia.
The two main purposes of the label are to:
- display the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced by the vehicle; and
- show the amount of fuel consumed in city and highway conditions.
The label complements the Governments Green Vehicle Guide website, which rates all new cars sold in Australia on greenhouse and pollution performance and provides fuel consumption data.In Australia, fuel consumption labelling is applied under the Australian Design Rule ADR81/02 Fuel Consumption Labelling for Light Vehicles. The ADR adopts test procedures set down by the United Nations.
An article in the Sydney Morning Herald suggests this labelling will commence in October but there is no mention of an implementation date in the Minister’s press release.
