Fisker Karma luxury 4 door plug-in hybrid sports touring sedan

I haven’t written about any high end cars for a while, apart from the possible demise of Tesla, so here is something for all us normal people to dream about.

It is called the Fisker Karma and if its performance matches its looks it will be an impressive machine.

Fisker Karma

Details are limited at this stage. The Karma will use plug-in hybrid technology called Q DRIVE by Quantum Technologies. Performance is quoted at 0 – 100 kph in six seconds with a top speed of 200 kph.

The Fisker Automotive web site states the Karma will have two distinct driving modes.

The first mode is Stealth Drive, which is the quiet economy mode for optimal relaxed and efficient driving. By flipping the second paddle behind the steering wheel, the car will switch to Sport Drive, which will access the full power of the vehicle.

One can only assume Stealth Mode will be powered by the on board Lithium Ion batteries produced by Advanced Lithium Power Ltd and Sport Drive will use the internal combustion engine (not specified) and batteries. The exact hybrid configuration is not listed either.

With so few details you’d be forgiven for thinking this is a piece of vapourware. However, the Fisker web site says initial production is anticipated to be 15,000 vehicles annually with pricing to start around USD80,000 and when you consider Henrik Fisker has designed cars for Aston Martin and BMW the likelihood of seeing the Karma produced increases dramatically.
