New South Wales joins Victoria in reporting greenhouse gas emissions

Way back on Australia Day we reported that The Climate Group was reporting Victoria’s greenhouse gas emissions on a weekly basis. New South Wales have now followed in their Southern neighbour’s footsteps.

From today NSW will be able to track weekly greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired electricity, natural gas-fired electricity and petroleum products. However, this only accounts for about 65% of NSW greenhouse gas emissions. Remaining emissions come from agriculture, waste and industry.

Weekly emissions for either state can be viewed on The Greenhouse Indicator. This week NSW pumped an amazing 1.914 million tonnes CO2e into the atmosphere just from electricity generation and the use of petroleum products!
