South Australia considering vehicle emission tax

The Conservation Council of South Australia wants to see cars taxed on their CO2 emissions. They see that the time has come to tax a car owners, either at sale or annually based on the C02 emissions shown on the windscreen sticker in grams/km seen on new cars (the same sticker that shows the fuel consumption in litres/100km). The CO2 figure determines levels of taxing overseas and the Conservation Council wants a similar system here.

The Motor Traders Association, while not advocating the tax, have admitted that the time for such a tax will come.
