Brisbane flirts with the idea of biodiesel super buses

Brisbane may trial three 25m long articulated super buses, each capable of carrying 200 passengers and fueled by biodiesel.

Similar buses, called LighTrams, run in Switzerland and are powered by overhead electricity cables. If the buses were trialled in Brisbane, they would not be powered in the same way, but would run on biodiesel fuel and be used only on Brisbane’s busways.

A range of issues, including manufacturing time lines, weight and size standards for vehicles operating on Australian roads need to be resolved before a trial goes ahead.
