Coal-to-liquid – 119% more greenhouse gas then petrol

This graph from the US Environmental Protection Agency was recently published in the New York Times.

The timing of this is poignant given the number of coal-to-liquid projects that are starting to appear in Australia. More of the New York Times story can be read at Treehugger. We have a lot of coal in Australia so if we are going to produce synthetic fuels from coal let’s at least do it using carbon capture.
