Murdoch University studies sustainable transport fuels & systems

A new research centre has been established at Murdoch University’s Research Institute for Sustainable Energy to fast-track the development of alternative fuels and sustainable transport in Western Australia.

The Director of the Centre for Research into Energy for Sustainable Transport, David Harries, says soaring oil prices and rising greenhouse gas emissions mean WA will need to reduce its reliance on petroleum products.

The centre will help to facilitate that goal as well as accelerating the growth of alternative fuel production in WA. We won’t waste time trying to pursue fuels that won’t work for us, we will be able to pick the fuels that seem to be the best options for us going forward.

Professor Harries says the centre will set a good example for the rest of Australia.

We have had consultants round Australia talking to us and saying I wish someone would do it. If Western Australia takes the lead the other states might follow.
