Ford to develop a hydrogen combustion engine in Australia

Ford Australia, the University of Melbourne and Haskel Australia have been awarded a Victorian State Government grant of $1.2 million to build a highly efficient low cost hydrogen fueled engine and fuel tank.

The first stage of the project aims to develop, build and test a hydrogen-fueled XR6 engine using advanced combustion technology.

University of Melbourne senior lecturer Michael Brear says:

This project will use cutting-edge research into low or zero emissions technology. It will also tackle the important energy issues of hydrogen generation from renewable energy and its high density storage requirements.
