General Motors show off the Volt in Detroit

GM have unveiled the Chevy Volt Concept at the Detroit Auto Show. Autobloggreen have a good write-up on the Volt that contains the official press release. They also have an article on the E-Flex electric vehicle platform that will underpin the Volt.

The good news is that the Volt is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with no direct connection between the 1.0 litre petrol engine and the drive train. The engine only starts when the batteries require charging. Fuel economy is being touted as up to 150mpg.

The bad news is we won’t see it on the roads until the end of this decade.
